In 2016 I set a new record for my car: driving it less than 1000 miles. I averaged 2.27 miles per day, although the vast majority of the miles came from weekend trips out of town. Throughout the whole year I never drove to work once! My car is coming up on 14 years, and is still just shy of 68,000 miles (it's at exactly 67,999!).
This year I also added up all of my car-related expenses in order to see just how much those few miles cost me, which averaged out to $1.74 per mile. As you might expect for a low-mileage rarely-driven car the bulk of my expenses were insurance. I should probably switch to a mileage-based insurance option, or even finally go car-free.
