Year In Review 2015 - Vehicle Miles Traveled

I'll have to confess: I don't actually have any data on my car use in 2015. I only record the mileage when I have it serviced, and I was remiss in getting an oil change from November 2014 until January 2016. During that 417 day gap I drove a grand total of 1,628 miles, averaging 1,428 miles/year or only 3.9 miles/day.

The change in behavior after I moved to Seattle in the fall of 2010 is pretty clear. Between January 2006 and September 2010 I drove just over 39,000 miles, averaging about 22 miles/day or 8,000 miles/year. Since then I've driven only 13,818 miles, averaging about 7 miles/day or 2,584 miles/year. I'm glad to see that this trend seems to be continuing downwards.

In terms of having the car serviced I've been relatively consistent at having it checked every 1,500 - 2,500 miles for the last few years, but since I don't drive often that means the time between checks has been pretty long. I find it hard to justify getting an oil change every few months when I've barely put a few hundred miles on the odometer.
